New Symptom
We had a new symptom crop up today, which we noticed before going to the cancer clinic for radiation treatment. The pupil of one of Lisa's eyes is now larger than the other. While this sometimes brings concern of a brain issue, Lisa's last full CT scan was recent enough that we know she has no pathologic issues outside the chest, and specifically none in the head. While our first thought was that one eye was dilated, an oncology nurse looked more closely and conferred with one of the doctors, and it's actually that the other eye's pupil is constricted, and that's the right eye, which is on the same side as the tumor. It's thought to probably be Horner's Syndrome, which is a disruption of nerve impulses to one side of the face and head, and usually manifests itself with a constricted pupil like we're seeing, and drooping eyelid, which Lisa's does just very very slightly on that side. There's nothing that's done specifically for this other than to treat the root cause, which we're doing via radiation to shrink the tumor that's pressing abnormally on structures in Lisa's chest, including nerve bundles.
