Test Results

We have the results for both the EGFR and ALK protein mutations from the samples sent off from Lisa's biopsies, and her tumor is negative for both. That means that she doesn't fit the profile for the use of those "targeted" types of chemo drugs if her tumor were to start growing again. If she had been EGFR positive, Tarceva is an approved chemo drug. If she had been ALK positive, there aren't approved drugs but there are several in trials.

In any case, in the absence of those opportunities, ALIMTA is the usual chemotherapy "maintenance drug" for Lisa's type of cancer, but we plan to follow MD Anderson's recommendation and NOT have Lisa take it while her tumor seems to be stable or continuing to shrink.
