The CT scan was done late this afternoon with no problems in the prep or procedure itself. Tomorrow we'll get the results, but meanwhile I've had the opportunity to look at the images. Though I have no expertise in evaluating what I'm seeing in most of the CT scan, I've become pretty familiar with indications of lung disease. What I'm reasonably sure that I'm seeing is a "
pleural effusion" in Lisa's right lung, which means a build up of fluid in the lining around the outside of lung (the "pleura"). This is not the same as pneumonia, which would be fluid buildup inside of the lung, nor pleurisy, which is an inflammation of the lung lining. A pleural effusion would explain why her coughing and chest pain has been so much worse the last several days, especially overnight while she's laying down and the fluid would be spreading out more and compressing the lung as you see in the photo below (Lisa is lying on her back as the CT scan is made and is imaged from the legs forward towards her upper body, so the right lung is on the left side of the image).
The area I've highlighted in pink shows it clearly.

If I'm correct and that's what it is, and there are no other issues seen by the radiologist expert, then this is a treatable complication, but not a serious problem in itself. We'll find out for sure tomorrow.
