The thoracic surgeon put a shadow over yesterday's good news. He's a wonderful doctor and very compassionate man, but tells it like it is. He said he's "very concerned" about the size of the enlarged lymph nodes in the area between the lungs (mediastinum) because when they stay large as the rest of the tumor is shrinking, it often means that they still contain live tumor... not always, but often. The only way to know for sure is to go in and take several biopsies, and that will be done as outpatient surgery a week from Thursday, along with another bronchoscopy to take a visual look inside the lung's airways.
There was a lot of other discussion regarding potential surgery, but I'll save that for another time.
