We met with the radiation oncologist this afternoon... and he was very interested to see the changes in Lisa's problem area as hers is only the second case of "radiation recall" that he's ever encountered in his two decades of medical practice. Textbooks say that radiation recall results in skin reddening and inflammation, like sunburn, but the lymphedema fluid and subcutaneous tissue hardening ("induration") match up perfectly to the reddened area and he believes the issues are interconnected. He agrees that removing the Gemzar component of the current chemo is the proper "trial and error" step towards finding what's causing the problem. Since steroids seem to be working, he's suggested that we work towards finding the minimum dose that provides Lisa the relief she needs, rather than keep using the multi-day "packs". He will coordinate this with our medical oncologist who we'll see tomorrow afternoon before Lisa's chemo treatment.
