Yesterday Lisa got "marked" (little tattoo dots) for the targets and reference points for the radiation to her hip, sacrum and top of the femur. Today we met with the radiation oncologist and talked about the options: 10 treatments or 15 treatments, with the total amount of radiation being the same. We opted for the 15 treatments, as the individual doses are less, with less chance for side effects such as digestive distress associated with the area being radiated. Tomorrow Lisa will go in for a "trial run" (the machine is programmed to properly move around her, but without actual treatment), and then radiation will start on Monday, and then every weekday for three weeks total.
There is a 94% chance (expectation!) that this will significantly reduce and even potentially eliminate the bone pain she is currently experiencing.
Lisa will also get her Xgeva injection on Monday. She's started taking calcium and vitamin D supplements in addition to her regular multi-vitamin, and will need to continue that during treatment.
