In today's scan, the cancer in Lisa's chest has shown significant reduction in size, and the cancer in her hip and leg is COMPLETELY GONE in the scan. That's all GREAT news and a major praise!
But... if there's no cancer in Lisa's hip area, it remains a mystery as to why there is still inflammation, pain and fluid buildup in that area. We know that there is some degradation in the bone there where cancer used to be (mostly in the marrow) but that doesn't necessarily explain it, and certainly doesn't give the doctor's an obvious course of action.
We've ordered some medical equipment (a wheeled "walker" and a shower chair) to help Lisa get around temporarily, and we're to see a new local orthopedic doctor on Monday unless they can get us in sooner. Lisa may also be further referred to an orthopedic oncologist in Birmingham (at UAB) or Nashville (at Vanderbilt).
