By last night, the red warm-to-the-touch area on Lisa's leg had spread considerably. We called in to the Cancer Center and were routed to the on-call nurse. After hearing this, she suggested that it sounded like a mild case/initial onset of cellulitis which is an infection in the subcutaneous layer below the skin. She said this sometimes occurs in patients getting chemotherapy due to the compromised immune system and imbalances caused by the chemo. The treatment is to use one of a family of antibiotics that have been shown to be especially effective with this problem. Lisa started on a 10-day dose of these last night, and she should be seeing some relief in 24 hours if that is indeed the problem.

Evening update: The amount of redness has lessened, and the skin in that area no longer feels hot. Lisa felt well enough that we were able to go to our church's 5pm Easter service!
