Lisa had a bad night with a lot of pain in her leg, waking her up several times. This morning the redness is slightly better, but there are actually multiple bruises that can be seen now.

This morning we went to see the orthopedic oncologist specialist at UAB. He said it's not a bone/orthopedic issue, confirming what the local orthopedic doctor had said, so that put us back to where we were. He did say that the xrays show that there's no need for a hip replacement, and that the bone integrity is still adquate so that there's little risk of spontaneous fracture. He also said it looks like a cellulitis infection is involved and said he could admit Lisa to the hospital there in Birmingham for tests and intravenous antibiotics, or she could go back home and check with her regular oncologist or even her family practice doctor for treatment.

We came back home and got in to see our cancer center medical oncologist and relayed the orthopedic oncologist's opinion. His response was, "OK, if it's not from the bone, then let's start over." He wants Lisa to continue the oral antibiotic, and also gave her an hour-long infusion of a stronger antibiotic this afternoon while we were there. He agrees that it's probably a cellulitis infection but is also concerned that it might have been preceded by lymphedema. Lisa is being referred to an Infectious Diseases doctor who we will see on Wednesday, and she will also get a diagnostic CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis on Friday.
