Lisa had her PET scan this morning, and we met with the doctor this afternoon. I've also got the disc and have been through the imaging. The official report was short, and its summary said "improving malignancy in the right chest -- small areas of activity persist." From what what I can see, the previous diagnostic CT scan led us to be a little too optimistic, though this is still a good report. While there may be only a single tumor mass that's visible and measurable with the CT, the PET scan shows that there is other active cancer in Lisa's chest, even if that is too small to see on the CT. Still, comparing apples-to-apples, it's somewhat better than it looked at the last PET scan (March) -- the doctor says about 20 percent improvement -- and it confirms that there has been no recurrence of the bone mets nor any new affected areas. This qualifies as "partial remission".
The oncologist has suggested that Lisa still continue chemo for two more cycles (four treatments over a 5 week period) because there still appears to be benefit in reducing her cancer. Unless the side effects become too debilitating, they like to continue the treatments until the cancer reduction plateaus.
